Jonathan Hulley, the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Twickenham, has warned that Labour’s plan to impose VAT on independent school fees could place serious pressure on families across the constituency.
Jonathan said: “Labour wants to tax independent school fees which could see fees increase by 20%.”
He added that the policy would be “a clear and present threat to thousands of families in Twickenham constituency who send their children to independent schools.”
Many parents in Twickenham make significant sacrifices to choose the education they believe is right for their children. A sharp increase in fees could place additional pressure on household budgets and may also have wider consequences if some families are forced to move their children into the local state sector.
Twickenham families deserve clear and robust opposition to this policy from their local representatives. The current Liberal Democrat MP should be doing far more to stand up for parents who are worried about the impact this tax could have on their children’s education and family finances.
Local Conservatives will continue to oppose policies that punish aspiration, restrict parental choice and make life harder for families across Twickenham constituency.
