Jonathan Hulley, the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Twickenham at the 2024 General Election, has thanked local residents who supported him and called for the Conservative Party to rebuild, renew and reconnect with voters.
Writing in the Twickenham Tribune, Jonathan reflected on the political changes that followed the July general election. He warned that the new Labour Government was already preparing a series of tax rises and policy reversals, while arguing that the Liberal Democrats appeared intent on positioning themselves as “an opposition to the left of Labour”.
Jonathan also congratulated Munira Wilson MP on her re-election and said he hoped she would continue to represent all voters in the Twickenham constituency, including those who had not supported her.
He said it had been “a pleasure and the privilege of my life” to stand as the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Twickenham and thanked the thousands of residents who voted Conservative.
During the campaign, Jonathan focused on a number of local issues, including opposing train ticket office closures, campaigning for free public access to Hampton Court Palace Gardens, opposing the Teddington Direct River Abstraction Plan, working with residents on the future of Twickenham Riverside, opposing Labour’s tax on independent school fees, and supporting residents through monthly Shadow MP surgeries.
Jonathan said the general election result had been a difficult one for Conservatives nationally, but argued that the party must now respond with energy, humility and determination.
He wrote that Conservatives must “rebuild and renew” and work to reconnect with voters who felt the party was no longer the right choice to lead the country.
Twickenham Conservatives said the Association would continue campaigning locally, standing up for residents and focusing on the issues that matter across the constituency.
