LIME BIKE SCHEME
Councillor Samuel has been following up on residents' complaints of Lime Bikes obstructing the pavements. Many are left in the middle of the pavement which is causing problems for the elderly, disabled and those with prams - often forcing them onto the roads to pass by.
It appears that last September the Transport Committee agreed to their provision by Uber and provided 'designated spaces' for the bicycles. The contract provides that these bikes should not obstruct the pavement but we have not seen action from the council when this is ignored.
By contrast, we have seen swift action from Wandsworth council, who last month instructed council officers to remove all Lime bikes that are causing obstruction and have written to Uber to ensure more is done to address the issue.
While we recognise the benefits of this convenient and sustainable form of travel we would like to see the council do more to regulate the scheme's deployment.
